Do You Need To Get A Hair Transplant

By Douglas Mortonson

More and more people are deciding to have hair transplant procedures done as they realize how many improvements have been made to the techniques. Many people feared getting the procedures in the past, because they were not well done and you could see obvious hair plugs on people who had undergone them although this is rarely true anymore. This does not mean, however, that everyone fully understands everything connected with the procedures.

Some 50 percent of American men experience a degree of hair loss. There is a definite need to deal with hair loss for these men and some do it by shaving themselves. Hair transplant surgery is another way men deal with this severe hair loss. Though those that accept their baldness may have a healthy outlook, they are out of step with what the rest of society is doing to combat hair loss.

Some people believe that these surgical procedures are as easily reversed as removing a wig but this is not true. For the individual that is planning one of these treatments, they should understand that they will change the look of their head forever and they will also require many surgical treatments to get the desired look. Beginning the hair transplant procedure is thus a very committed undertaking because the first few grafts commit you for life so any doctor's promise to try it out to see if you like it first is a warning sign to look elsewhere.

You might think that because the surgery is so easy to bear that you can just jump back into your activities, but the truth is, you'll need plenty of rest after hair transplant surgery. You might believe that post-surgery care of your scalp is not as difficult or as necessary as post-surgery care of muscle or bone, but this isn't true. You'll have a head full of tiny wounds that absolutely must be protected after surgery.

At a time span of one to two years, the time required to undergo hair transplant surgery is not a small one. Many people choose to undergo mega-sessions - a procedure in which thousands of grafts are added in one sitting. Naturally, these sessions are quite long and frequently very taxing on the patient.

Hair transplant surgery may be combined with other procedures: If you do not have enough hair, you cannot have the normal treatment. There are additional surgeries that can help achieve the desired goals that can be performed simultaneously. Most patients agree that these additional procedures are the cause of additional pain.

It is unlikely that your surgeon will share with you the fact that not all grafts survive. The hope is that only a few will not survive and that the overall result will be a positive one. Though every effort is made to ensure that grafts survive, this is frequently not enough.

You can expect to pay around 12,000 dollars for hair transplant surgery, though this is not as expensive as you might believe. Taking into consideration an average lifespan of a person dying at 70, if they have the procedure done at 30, then they have paid 300 dollars for each of the 40 years they had the surgery, which averages out to 25 dollars per month. Twenty-five dollars per month is much more than many so-called low cost hair loss treatments cost. You would actually save by getting the surgery done in the first place. - 30305
